Devotion from dawn to dusk van Eberhard Konig
Dr. Eberhard König, professor of art history at the Kunsthistorisches Institut of the Freie Universität Berlin, is an authority in the field of medieval manuscripts. His publications on Books of Hours such as the Bedford Hours and Les Très Belles Heures de Notre-Dame du Duc de Berry are widely known. In the autumn of 2011, Eberhard König was Fellow of NIAS (the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences) and the Koninklijke Bibliotheek, National Library of the Netherlands. In the KB, he studied the collection of Books of Hours, placing them in an international context. The KB has an extensive collection of illuminated books of hours, medieval prayer books for laymen, both from the Netherlands and from other European countries. This publication contains the text of the public lecture given by Eberhard König on 19 January 2012, organised by the Koninklijke Bibliotheek and the Historisch Nieuwsblad. The KB Fellowship is an initiative of NIAS and the KB, to promote the possibilities for research offered by the library. König is the eighth KB Fellow; he was preceded by the renowned scholars Peter Burke, Emmanuel Le Roy Ladurie, Robert Darnton, Jonathan Israel, Lisa Jardine, Robin Kinross and Jo Tollebeek.
